Apple Maps received a big upgrade in iOS 10. Now, with the Maps app, you can connect to third-party apps on your device. For example, you can use your reservation app-enabled with Apple Maps to make the reservation, and get directions all within the Maps app.
How to enable and use Apple Maps extensions on iPhone
As you know, apps that can be used with Maps will show up within your Maps settings. Many third-party applications such as Uber, Lyft, OpenTable can work with the Maps app. Check out steps to enable third-party apps as extensions for Apple Maps:
Step 1: First off, you need to open the Settings app on your device
Step 2: Next, you need to select Maps
Step 3: Now, you’ll see all the apps that can be used with Maps under extensions
Step 4: Lastly, you have to turn on any apps you wish to use with Maps.
Steps to Use a Third-Party Extension in Apple Maps
Step 1: First off, you need to open the Maps app
Step 2: The third-party app is one of the keys to determine how you access third-party extensions in Maps
Step 3: For example, you can use OpenTable that is an app meant to make restaurant reservations. When you find a restaurant in Maps and tap on it, you can see an option to make a reservation
Step 4: If you use Lyft, you will be presented with the option to select Ride at the bottom of the screen (next to Drive, Walk, and Transit).
Step 5: Now, you can select the ride that works for your budget by tapping Book
