Apple has officially rolled out iOS 11 update to all users worldwide. iOS 11 went through several beta versions ahead of the final release this fall. iOS 11 is still making their way to Apple devices across the globe, with a lot of new features and improvements over the predecessor.
For iPhone and iPad owners, they can get the software update via over-the-air (OTA), which is pretty safe and fast. However, you can install iOS 11 on your device manually using IPSW firmware and iTunes.
There could be any reason for why you need to install the update using IPSW firmware and iTunes. One such reason is that you can easily restore your device with IPSW via DFU mode in case something happens during the process.
How to update to iOS 11 manually using IPSW firmware
Before we begin, make sure you have downloaded the correct IPSW firmware on your device and created a full backup of your device. To download IPSW firmware, head over to this link and find the firmware that corresponds to your model. Once you are done, you can proceed with the next step.
Step one: Connect your iPhone to a Mac or a Windows PC and open iTunes on your computer (make sure you now have the latest version of iTunes on your machine)
Step two: Next up, select your device when it shows up in iTunes (If you don’t see your device in iTunes, try re-connecting your device to your computer and re-launch iTunes)
Step three: Once you are done, hold down the Option menu and hit the Update button (on Mac). If you now own a Windows PC, hold down the Shift key and hit the Update button
Step four: Locate the IPSW file you downloaded above (make sure you select the correct IPSW file for your device)
Step five: iTunes will display a pop-up menu informing that it will update your device and verify the update with Apple. Hit Update. iTunes will then start installing the update on your device and reboot your device
Step six: Once your device finishes rebooting, you are good to go.
