How to delete Music from iPhone without deleting from iCloud or iTunes Library

You have spent years and years adding your own music to your iPhone or iPad, and it’s time to delete music as the collection has grown too large. In particular, if you are using Apple Music, it’s important to know the difference between deleting a song from your iPhone and deleting a song from iCloud or iTunes Library. In this post, we will walk you through the steps to delete music from iPhone without deleting from iCloud or iTunes Library.

Before diving in, note that whether you are using Apple Music or not, you can keep music downloaded on your iPhone. There is a little difference between deleting music from an iPhone with Apple Music and without Apple Music, so we will demonstrate both below.

Steps to delete music from iPhone without deleting from iTunes (With Apple Music)

Step 1: First off, launch the Music app on your iPhone/iPad.

Step 2: Next, locate the song you wish to delete.

Step 3: If your device is running on iOS 9, you can tap the More icon beside the song.

               If your device is running on iOS 10 or higher, you can 3D Touch the song to reveal your options.

               If your device is running on iOS 10 or higher, but doesn’t support 3D Touch, you can tap and hold the song to open the menu.

Step 4: Choose Remove… from the list.

Step 5: Tap Delete from Library in order to delete the song from your iPhone and iCloud Music library on all other devices. Note that deleting a song from your library will also remove the download. Plus, once you delete an Apple Music song from your iCloud Music Library, you will have to redownload that song to have it again.

Steps to delete music from iPhone without deleting from iTunes (Without Apple Music)

You follow the same steps 13 of the first section, but in steps 4, you need to choose Delete from Library, and then tap Delete song in the menu that pops up.

The song should be removed from all of your devices.

Steps to remove a song from your iPhone without removing from iCloud Music Library

Step 1: First off, launch the Music app on your iPhone/iPad.

Step 2: Next, locate the song you wish to remove the download of.

Step 3: If your device is running on iOS 9, you can tap the More icon beside the song.

               If your device is running on iOS 10 or higher, you can 3D Touch the song to reveal your options.

               If your device is running on iOS 10 or higher, but doesn’t support 3D Touch, you can tap and hold the song to open the menu.

Step 4: Tap Remove… from the list.

Step 5: Lastly, choose Remove Download.
